A fire broke out at the Barguna District Election Office on Monday morning, damaging various documents, computers, and office furniture.
The incident occurred around 7:00am. According to Md Monir-uz-Zaman, Additional District Election Officer, a cleaner on duty heard an unusual noise coming from one of the rooms while working. He immediately alerted nearby people, who then saw flames coming from the room known as the accounts section.
Firefighters were called to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control shortly after their arrival. However, by that time, old voter lists, several ballot boxes, computers, a refrigerator, important paperwork, and some furniture had already been destroyed.
Jahangir Ahmed, Assistant Director of Barguna Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, “We received the fire report at 7:26am. As our station is nearby, our team reached the site promptly and successfully brought the fire under control.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
