A major fire broke out at a factory in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) on Thursday afternoon.
The blaze began around 2pm at Adams Caps and Textile Limited, located on Link Road within Sector 1 of the CEPZ. According to initial reports, the fire started on the seventh floor of the eight-storey factory building and quickly spread to the sixth and fifth floors.
Talha Bin Jasim, an official from the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell, confirmed that 17 firefighting units have been deployed so far in an ongoing effort to douse the flames.
In addition to the fire service, specialised teams from both the Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Army have joined the operation to contain the fire, which has proven difficult to control due to its spread across multiple floors.
Officials said the cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway.
A source from the Chattogram Division Fire Service stated that although the situation is being addressed with full force, the flames have spread extensively, causing delays in bringing it fully under control.
All workers inside the building have reportedly been evacuated. However, no casualties have been officially confirmed yet. Abdus Sobhan, executive director of Chattogram EPZ, said there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities so far.
Police and local administrative officials, along with industrial zone security personnel, have arrived at the site to assess the situation and coordinate emergency efforts.
EPZ Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jamir Hossain Zia stated that updates would be provided as further details become available.
