The Election Commission (EC) is set to publish the final delimitation of parliamentary constituencies “as soon as possible”, following the conclusion of hearings on objections and suggestions.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the commission has completed hearings on a total of 1,893 submissions, including 1,185 objections and 708 suggestions, related to the demarcation of parliamentary constituencies.

“These hearings covered 84 constituencies across 33 districts. We’re now reviewing all submissions and will release the final list quickly,” said the EC Secretary.

Meanwhile, the last day hearing sessions were held earlier from 10am to 4pm at the EC auditorium on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin. Other election commissioners and secretariat officials also attended the hearings.

“We have listened to the objections. We heard arguments both in favor and against the proposals as well as the previously published gazette. We tried to listen to everyone,” said Akhtar Ahmed. He added that repeated objections on the same issue were discouraged, and he appreciated that all parties respected this request.

Responding to a question, the EC secretary said, “Objections were raised only regarding the 84 parliamentary seats. We will not make any changes where there were no objections,” he said.

He informed the media that on August 24, objections related to 18 constituencies in six districts were heard; the following day, on August 25, hearing covered 20 constituencies in nine districts. On August 26, 28 constituencies in six districts were reviewed and on the final day, on Wednesday, 18 constituencies in 12 districts were discussed.

When asked about the announcement date of the election roadmap, the EC Secretary refrained from giving specifics but assured that more information would be shared the next day.
