Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club has been cleared to participate in the upcoming top-tier football season after FIFA lifted its transfer ban on the Motijheel-based side. The ban, imposed earlier this month, stemmed from the club’s failure to clear last season’s wages owed to Uzbek footballer Sardor Jakhonov.
Ahmad Ali, general secretary of the club, confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying that the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) had received a letter from FIFA instructing the lifting of the sanction.
“We are all delighted to hear the news. The letter lifting our sanction came to BFF today and they have informed us,” said Ali, adding that the club paid Tk 25 lakh in overdue salaries to Jakhonov to resolve the issue.
A BFF source also confirmed the news, stating that Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club can now proceed with all transfers, both domestic and international.
With the transfer window set to close on 15 August, the club is expected to move quickly to strengthen its squad. “We will try to form a good team now, with our local players and foreign ones,” Ali said.
