A father and his two sons were killed when their microbus crashed into the back of a parked truck on the Dhaka-Tangail highway near the Korotia Bypass in Basail upazila.
The accident occurred around 9am on Tuesday in the Koratipara area. Three others were injured.
The deceased have been identified as Amjad Mondal, 65 from Kamarchar village in Sherpur Sadar upazila, and his two sons Rahat Mondal, 26 and Atul Mondal, 14.
Those injured are Amjad’s wife Maksuda Begum, 60, Rahat’s wife Mariam, 22, and the microbus driver Nazmul, 40. They have been admitted to Tangail General Hospital.
Basail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jalal Uddin said the family was traveling to their village home for the Eid holiday. When the microbus reached the Koratipara area, the driver lost control and crashed into a truck that was parked by the side of the road. Amjad and his two sons died on the spot.
The bodies have been taken into custody by Gorai Highway Police. They will be handed over to the family after legal procedures are completed, he added.
