A man and his son were tragically killed by a lightning strike in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh on Sunday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Mostafa, 45, and his nine-year-old son, Abdullah. The incident took place in Abdullahpur village under Khairua Union No. 11.
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nandail Model Police Station, has confirmed the incident.
According to local sources, Mostafa was working with his son in their paddy field near their home, preparing seedbeds for the upcoming Aman rice season.
On their way back home, a sudden storm accompanied by heavy rain broke out. A powerful lightning strike hit them, causing both father and son to collapse on the spot.
Locals rushed to the scene and attempted to take them to Nandail Upazila Health Complex, but both were pronounced dead before reaching the hospital.
The tragic deaths have cast a pall of grief over Abdullahpur and the surrounding villages.
Nandail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sarmina Sattar and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nandail Model Police Station Mohammad Anwar Hossain expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
