A father has been accused of murdering his two-year-old son and burying the body inside their home, in Haluaghat, Mymensingh. The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Paschim Dhurail area under the Dhurail Union. Upon receiving the news, police recovered the child’s body from the scene.
The accused, Nurul Amin, (30), is the son of Fazlul Mia and a resident of the same village. Family members claim that Nurul Amin is mentally unstable and has been suffering from psychological issues for a long time.
According to local residents and family sources, on Wednesday afternoon, Nurul Amin took his son Ayub Ali into his room. He then allegedly threatened other family members with a sharp machete and locked the door from the inside. In the evening, with help from neighbors, the family managed to re-enter the house. When they asked about the child’s whereabouts, Nurul Amin claimed he didn’t know.
Suspicion grew when a piled-up mud was noticed near the room. The family restrained Nurul Amin, and he eventually confessed to killing his son by hitting him on the head and then burying the body inside the house. Shockingly, he also admitted to killing two goats and burying them in the same spot. Police later recovered the murder weapons—a shovel and a spade—from the site and took Nurul Amin into custody. The child’s body was also retrieved and taken to the local police station.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s grandfather Fazlul Mia said, “My son is mentally ill. We were not at home. When we returned in the afternoon, we got to know that he had beaten his wife and taken the child. In the evening, we discovered he had killed and buried my grandson.”
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Haluaghat Circle, Sagar Sarkar, confirmed the incident, stating that police have recovered the child’s body and arrested the father. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
