A man and his teenage daughter were killed when a bus hit their three-wheeler on the Thakurgaon–Panchagarh highway in Khoshbazar on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Ashraful Islam, 50, a resident of Khulishakuri Post Office Para under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, and his daughter Rubaiya Khatun, 15, a ninth-grade student at Boda Pilot Girls’ High School.

Bhulli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said Ashraful was driving the three-wheeler to take his daughter to school when a Dhaka-bound bus heading towards Panchagarh struck the vehicle from behind around 8:30 am. Ashraful died on the spot, he added, quoting witnesses.

Although locals rescued Rubaiya and rushed her to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.

The OC further said police seized the bus involved in the crash, but the driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene.

Legal action is being taken, he added.
