An attack on Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s brother, Mirza Faisal Amin, and the vandalism of his car in Baliadangi, Thakurgaon, have led to the expulsion of two leaders from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The incident took place on Tuesday (July 29) at 8:00 pm, as per a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, published on the party’s verified Facebook page.
The expelled leaders are Advocate Syed Alam, former president of Baliadangi Upazila BNP, and Dr. TM Mahbubur Rahman, former general secretary of the same. The victim, Mirza Faisal Amin, is the General Secretary of Thakurgaon District BNP.
According to the press release, the violence occurred on July 12 during a council session of Baliadangi Upazila BNP. Former acting president of Baliadangi Upazila BNP, Advocate Md. Syed Alam, and Dr. TM Mahbubur Rahman, who was running for the position of general secretary, were involved in the violent and inappropriate behavior, leading to their expulsion from all positions within the party.
Earlier, on July 12, after the results of the Baliadangi Upazila BNP conference were announced at the Samiuddin Smriti College ground, Mirza Faisal Amin, the brother of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was attacked while returning home. His vehicle was also vandalized by miscreants.
On July 13, Thakurgaon District BNP’s Joint General Secretary Paygam Ali held a press conference to announce the suspension of the results. That same day, the district BNP held a meeting and sent a recommendation for the expulsion of the two leaders involved in the incident to the central party.
Baliadangi Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkot Ali Sarkar stated that no formal complaint had been filed regarding the altercation and violence surrounding the July 12 conference.
