Fake doctor arrested in Jashore

Police arrested a young man for allegedly impersonating a doctor at the 250-bed General Hospital in Jashore on Monday.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station, Abul Hasnat, confirming the arrest said the man is accused of engaging in fraudulent activities while posing as a doctor.

The arrestee Abdur Rahman Rakib, 27, is a student at the Institute of Health Technology in Barisal. He is the son of Mujibur Rahman from the Shankarpur area of Jashore.

Dr Md Husain Shafayat, the hospital’s supervisor, said, “We have instructed the police to take legal action against the arrested individual.”

Hospital staff reported that Rakib had been roaming inside the hospital for nearly two weeks, pretending to be a doctor.

He claimed to be a student of the 15th batch of JMC.

He had been taking money from the relatives of patients through deceptive tactics.

Sanjida Begum, a woman, shared that Rakib took Tk 500 taka from her on various pretexts while a relative of her was admitted to the hospital.

Rakib was also reported to have taken Tk 3,500 from a patient in the hospital’s model ward, claiming it was for tests, and another Tk2,500 from another patient.
