An explosion resembling a “cocktail-like firecracker” has been reported near the entrance gate of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station Khalid Mansur informed journalists that the explosion occurred sometime between the early hours of the morning and 6am on Sunday.
“The incident took place on the footpath in front of the International Crimes Tribunal gate, adjacent to Shishu Academy. However, the object did not contain the typical materials found inside a cocktail bomb,” he added.
OC Mansur went on to say that legal proceedings regarding the incident were underway, with all concerned parties informed.
“No arrests have been made so far,” he added. “But we are reviewing CCTV footage and continuing investigations.”
On the same day, formal charges were filed at the International Crimes Tribunal against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for alleged crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
