A Dhaka court has ordered the attachment of a luxury flat, worth Tk Tk3.65 crore, belonging to Nazibur Rahman, former chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) and ex-Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
In addition, the court directed the freezing of seven bank accounts, five beneficiary owner (BO) accounts, held in the names of Nazibur’s family members and attaching another flat located in Siddheshwari, registered in the name of Nazibur’s son, Farabi NA Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Tuesday, following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Among the seven frozen bank accounts, two are joint accounts in the names of Nazibur Rahman and his wife, Nazma Rahman, while the remaining five belong to their two sons – Farabi NA Rahman and Fuad NA Rahman.
Additionally, five beneficiary owner (BO) accounts, registered in the names of their sons, have also been frozen.
In its petition, the ACC accused Nazibur Rahman of amassing significant wealth illegally through bribery, corruption, and manipulation of government transfers.
The commission claimed that its preliminary investigation had uncovered several movable and immovable assets in the names of Nazibur’s family members.
The ACC further stated that there were attempts by Nazibur and his family to transfer or dispose of these assets, which could obstruct justice and hinder the investigation.
In its plea, the ACC argued that if the assets were allowed to be moved, it would result in a considerable loss to the country and prevent the full scope of the investigation.
The court was therefore requested to seize and freeze the assets to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
The former NBR chairman Nazibur was arrested on 7 October last year from the Ramna area of the capital and has remained in custody since.
