The Ex-Forces Association has demanded the execution of OC Pradeep, the prime accused in the killing of retired Major Sinha, within seven days.
They made the demand at a press conference held on Monday morning at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The organisation warned that tough programmes would be announced if a specific date for the execution is not declared within seven days.
Association Secretary Lieutenant (Retd) Saifullah Khan Saif said, “Delays in carrying out the verdict are hurting not only the victim’s family but also the morale of our army, law enforcement agencies, and the general public.”
He said, “Although the High Court delivered the death sentence on June 2, it took two months just to finish typing the verdict. The execution date has still not been announced.”
They also alleged that political influence and administrative weaknesses are causing delays in justice.
Chairman of the International Human Rights Implementation and Training Foundation (HIT Foundation), Mohammad Nurullah Al Amin, said, “This killing took place in 2022. If the verdict had been executed within six months, many would have been afraid to commit similar crimes.”
He said, “The delay in execution is not just about one case but is linked to public confidence in the justice system, ensuring punishment for criminals, and preventing future crimes.”
Also present at the press conference were the association’s Convener Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Mehedi Hasan and other members of the organisation.
