Ex-DIG among three police officials suspended

Three more senior police officers, including a deputy inspector general (DIG), has been suspended for prolonged absence without leave or permission.

The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday issued three separate suspension notices, signed by Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani.

The home ministry issued the suspensions citing violations under Rule 3(c) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

According to sources, many police members were absent for long following a breakdown in the police chain of command after the fall of the Awami League-led government on August 5 last year.

The notification stated that DIG Nure Alam, former DIG of Chattogram range and currently attached to the Rajshahi Sarda Police Academy, has been absent since February 9 without approval.

Besides, Manas Kumar Poddar, former deputy commissioner of detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and now with the DIG office of Barishal Range, has been absent since October 18, last year.

Another notice stated that Md Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police of Gazipur Industrial Police -2, has been absent since February 10 without approval.

Earlier, on June 26, a total of 13 police officials, including three superintendents of police (SPs), eight additional superintendents of police (ASPs) and two assistant superintendents of police, were temporarily suspended for going into hiding and being absent from work without approval.
