Ex-CEC Huda put on a fresh 4-day police remand

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has been put on a fresh four-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly manipulating the national election.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mustafizur Rahman passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded for a 10-day remand in the case filed with the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

After the hearing, the court approved a 4-day remand.

BNP National Executive Committee Member Md Salahuddin Khan filed the case on Sunday morning against 24 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and three former CECs, for manipulating the national elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024.

Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, four former inspectors general of police (IGP), several former election commissioners, and former chiefs of Special Branch (SB), National Security Intelligence (NSI), and the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) have also been accused in the case.

Earlier, on Sunday, police took Huda into custody from his residence in Sector 5 of Uttara after a mob apprehended the former CEC.
