Former Kushtia-1 Member of Parliament AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha was detained by Dhaka Metropolitan Police from the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Tuesday.
Mohammadpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Hafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest and said that acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a drive in the Bosila area at around 1:00pm and apprehended the former Awami League MP.
However, police have yet to confirm the specific charges under which Sarwar was arrested.
Sarwar Jahan Badsha, a fugitive at the time of detention, is expected to be produced before a Dhaka court following due legal procedures.
Earlier, on 20 February 2025, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Sarwar and his wife in connection with an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation. The ACC has filed a case against the couple over allegations of graft, which remains under investigation.
In a related development, law enforcement reported that leaders and supporters of the now-banned Awami League held flash processions in various parts of the Dhaka-13 constituency.
Police have identified several individuals believed to have led the processions and say efforts are underway to detain them.
