Government officers and employees at the Bangladesh Secretariat will stage a daily one-hour work stoppage from 10:00am to 11:00am until the controversial Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 is revoked, the Secretariat Officers and Employees Oikya Forum announced Wednesday.
The decision came despite the forum temporarily suspending its planned Wednesday protest after Tuesday’s meeting with senior secretaries.
Senior Secretary of Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed confirmed that a seven-member committee of secretaries has briefed Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, who will present the demands to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus upon his return from Japan on May 31.
Forum Co-Chairman Nurul Islam declared the fresh protest strategy at a press conference, stating the work stoppage would be observed simultaneously across all offices. The ordinance, which reorganises provisions related to job security and promotions, has sparked widespread discontent among civil servants who argue it facilitates arbitrary dismissals.
The officials had been protesting at the Secretariat since Saturday, demanding the cancellation of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
