Openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim gave Bangladesh a rare solid foundation as the Tigers posted their highest-ever T20 International total against Pakistan, reaching 196 for six in the third and final match of the three-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The total surpassed their previous best of 175, set at Pallekelle during the 2012 T20 World Cup.
After being put in to bat, the Bangladesh openers provided a flying start with a 110-run opening stand. Tanzid, who initially took time to settle, was the first to depart. The left-hander struck three fours and three sixes in his 32-ball 42 before falling to Faheem Ashraf midway through the 11th over while attempting a ramp shot.
His partner Emon followed in the next over, bowled by leg-spinner Shadab Khan, when he miscued a big shot towards the leg side and was caught. Emon’s 34-ball 66 was an aggressive innings featuring seven boundaries and four maximums.
At the end of 12 overs, Bangladesh stood at 120 for two, setting the stage for a strong finish.
Skipper Liton Das and Tawhid Hridoy added 49 runs for the third wicket to maintain momentum, but both fell after getting set. Liton made 22 off 18 before being bowled by Hasan Ali while attempting a ramp shot in the 17th over. Hridoy followed in the next over, scoring 25 off 18 before picking out the fielder at deep midwicket.
Jaker Ali provided a late flourish with an unbeaten nine-ball 15, pushing the score past 190 in the final overs.
Despite both openers falling to soft dismissals, their aggressive start laid the groundwork for Bangladesh’s record total against Pakistan in T20 Internationals.
