Nigerian striker Emmanuel Sunday has signed with Bashundhara Kings, bolstering the reigning Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions as they prepare for their upcoming AFC Challenge League campaign.

Sunday was a standout performer for Mohammedan Sporting Club last season, scoring 11 goals in 16 matches and playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic BPL title win — their first in 23 years. He also starred in Mohammedan’s 2023 Bashundhara Group Federation Cup triumph, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most impactful forwards.

Despite his contributions, Mohammedan chose not to retain the 33-year-old attacker or his long-time teammate Souleymane Diabate, both of whom were instrumental in the team’s recent resurgence. While Diabate has since joined Abahani Limited Dhaka, Sunday now becomes the latest Nigerian addition to Bashundhara Kings’ ranks.

The Kings, widely regarded as the dominant force in Bangladeshi football, are currently rebuilding their squad ahead of a critical AFC Challenge League playoff against Syria’s Al-Karamah, scheduled for 12 August in Doha. The club has seen a number of key departures, including national team regulars Sheikh Morsalin, Rabbi Hossain Rahul, Rafiqul Islam, and Tutul Hossain Badsha.

Sunday’s arrival is seen as a timely boost for Bashundhara Kings, who will be relying on his experience and goal-scoring instincts as they aim to maintain their domestic dominance and make a mark on the continental stage.
