Eleven more AL men held in city

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested 11 more leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organisations in the last 24 hours.

The arrestees include are former Dhaka South City Corporation ward councilor of the reserved women’s wards Sultana Ahmed Lipi, ex-APS of former lawmaker of Gaibandha Sadar-2 constituency, Shah Muhammad Sabur Hossain, Vice President of Bangshal Thana Juba League Saidur Rahman Titu, Joint General Secretary of Tejgaon Industrial Thana Awami League Syed Amanullah Hossain alias Apu and Vice President of Dhaka North City Chhatra League Md Ariful Islam.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest. He said that a team of DB Wari Division arrested Lipi from Kadamtali Police Station area on Sunday as there are multiple cases against her linked to the July uprising.

Besides, other activists were detained from Mohammadpur, Moghbazar, Pallabi, Bangshal, Bhatara, South Begunbari Ramna and Tejgaon areas.  The official said that the arrestees were wanted in multiple criminal cases including, the July uprising cases.

The police earlier on Sunday arrested 21 leaders and activists of the AL and its affiliated organizations on charges of attempting to create sabotage as part of the ongoing special operations to maintain law and order in the capital.
