Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Nahid Islam has said that, without reforms, a national election is not possible, adding that the 1972 Constitution is essentially a “Mujibist Constitution,” which needs to be amended in the interest of the country’s ongoing development.

The NCP leader made these remarks during a street rally organised by the party in the Berirpar area of Moulvibazar, Sylhet, on Saturday afternoon.

He also alleged that attempts are being made to blame the those who participated in last year’s student-led mass uprising for the police killings in Baniachong, Habiganj.

On a separate note, Nahid assured the crowd that NCP would work to improve the living standards of tea workers and secure the rights of various ethnic communities.

Earlier in the morning, he met with the family of one of uprising’s martyred heroes in Sylhet. There, the relatives of the martyr expressed their firm stance on justice and reform.

After the street rally, it was reported that NCP leaders departed from Moulvibazar for Kishoreganj.
