Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday asserted that the next national election must be held by December, criticising what he described as delay tactics by the interim government.
“A kind of dilly-dallying is going on over voting. But the election must be held by December,” he said while virtually addressing a massive crowd gathered in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
Thousands of BNP leaders and activists from across the country participated in the rally, organised by the party’s three youth fronts — Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal.
Many carried banners and festoons featuring images of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, highlighting the party’s ongoing campaign for democratic restoration and electoral reforms.
The rally was held amid growing pressure on interim government headed by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to outline a specific roadmap for the next general election.
Senior BNP leaders, including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Salahuddin Ahmed, also addressed the rally. Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna presided over the event.
