At least eight members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were injured on Wednesday afternoon while trying to prevent protesting students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) from marching toward the official residence of chief adviser at Jamuna, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The students, demonstrating with a three-point demand, clashed with police as they attempted to move towards the Jamuna, it said, adding that the injured officers have been admitted to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital for treatment. Among them, two are reported to be in critical condition.
The injured include DMP Ramna Zone Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (ADC) Rezwanul Islam, Sub-Inspector Touhidul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector Farhad Ali, Constables Adib, Aminul Islam and Shrabon. Among them, SI Touhidul Islam and Constable Adib are in serious condition.
