The observance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi, which honours both the birth and passing of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), is scheduled to take place nationwide on September 6 with due religious solemnity.
This was determined during a gathering of the National Moon Sighting Committee held on Sunday at the Islamic Foundation Conference Room within Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, chaired by Religious Affairs Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik.
The committee stated that, since the crescent moon for Rabiul Awal, 1446 Hijri, was not visible in Bangladesh on Sunday, the sacred month will commence on Tuesday.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on the 12th day of Rabiul Awal in 570 AD, and he departed from this world on the same date in 632 AD.
The occasion is recognised as a public holiday in Bangladesh.
