The Election Commission (EC) has urged citizens to remain vigilant and not fall for misleading advertisements circulating on social media platforms such as Facebook that falsely claim to offer National Identity (NID) card-related services.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the EC stated that a growing number of unauthorised and fake IDs and pages have been advertising such services online, particularly through Facebook, aiming to lure unsuspecting citizens with false promises.

The statement clarified that the entities are not affiliated with the EC in any capacity.

The commission emphasised that only two official Facebook pages disseminate authentic information and updates regarding voter list updates and NID card services. They are: Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat (facebook.com/BangladeshECS), managed by the EC Secretariat, and National ID Card (facebook.com/bd.nid), managed by the National Identity Registration Wing and the IDEA Project (2nd Phase).

The EC also reminded the public that, for any queries or assistance regarding NID services, they may directly contact the dedicated national hotline number 105.
