EC to launch expatriate voter registration in Japan

Election Commission (EC) will start voter registration and NID distribution activities for Bangladeshi expatriates living in Japan from July 7.

In this regard, a technical team will visit Japan soon. EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed will monitor the campaign and is scheduled to stay in Japan from July 13 to July 17 to oversee the process.

Earlier, on June 26, a notification was issued requesting the Bangladesh Embassy to provide a list of one officer and four data entry operators to support the initiative.

According to EC officials, similar voter registration and NID distribution programs are already underway in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Italy, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Australia, and Canada for Bangladeshi nationals residing in those countries.

So far, a total of 47,032 Bangladeshi expatriates have applied for voter registration. Biometric data has been collected from 29,563 individuals, and 20,451 applicants have been successfully enlisted as voters.
