In a significant move towards digital transformation, Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) and Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) have partnered to launch a fully automated digital payment system, according to a press release.
The new platform, launched on 26 July 2025, at a ceremony held at Radisson Blu Chattogram, uses secure API-based technology to streamline payment processes at the port.
Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hussain, who attended the event as the chief guest, emphasised the transformative impact of the system, stating, “This system will revolutionise the port’s payment infrastructure and reflect CPA’s commitment to digital governance.”
The platform enables instant confirmation of VAT, AIT, and welfare payments, automates reconciliation, and improves efficiency while reducing operational costs. It also enhances transparency and reduces congestion at port facilities. Port users can now make payments from anywhere, improving convenience for all stakeholders.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Sahadat Hossain hailed the collaboration as a step towards a smarter, more efficient city.
EBL Managing Director Ali Reza Iftekhar described the system as a paradigm shift in revenue collection and service delivery at the port, which is a key part of Bangladesh’s maritime trade.
