Amanullah Chowdhury, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ‘e-Orange’, one of the most widely discussed names in e-commerce fraud, was arrested from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport  on Friday.

Amanullah, also joint convener of the Dhaka district unit of Jubo League, was the mastermind behind the e-Orange scam.

He was known to be a close associate of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

He had been absconding since the student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024.

There are allegations that Amanullah embezzled approximately Tk 11 billion from ordinary customers through the e-commerce platform e-Orange.

There are a total of 54 cases filed against him in various police stations across the country regarding this matter.

Although he had been jailed multiple times for fraud cases, he was out on bail at the time of his arrest.

Police reported that Amanullah deliberately stayed in jail at times to facilitate the misappropriation of e-Orange’s Tk 11 billion.

Under the protection of influential figures within the Awami League government, he often misled investigators in various ways.

Taslima Akter, officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station, told Times of Bangladesh, “Amanullah, an accused in multiple cases, has been arrested.”

“Amanullah will be presented before the court after completing necessary legal procedures.”
