Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICB) has outlined a series of action plan for its panel to contest the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) elections slated for September 9.

Al Sadik Kayyum, central president of the ICB, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, revealed the plans at a press briefing in the capital on Friday.

The pledges include tackling the accommodation crisis through public-private partnerships, enhancing co-curricular activities, ensuring health and food security, digitising administrative services, improving library and educational standards, ensuring safety of female students, and addressing transportation issues.

“Despite a century of existence, Dhaka University couldn’t ensure 100% accommodation for its students. If elected, we will gradually arrange accommodation for every student,” he said.

Kayyum proposed that the university should collaborate with private institutions and alumni for addressing the accommodation crisis.

“By renovating the auditoriums of the halls, we aim to create centres for cultural activities and foster connections among students.”

The Shibir chief claimed, “The medical center does not provide effective medical services.” To address this, he promised the modernisation of the medical center and signed agreements with various hospitals to ensure quality healthcare for students.”

Additionally, he emphasised improving food quality in university halls and ensuring subsidies.

He also pledged to elevate Dhaka University library to international standards and called for updating syllabuses in all departments and improvement in teaching quality.

In response to students’ complaints, Kayyum assured the establishment of an effective sexual harassment prevention cell.
