Sanjida Ahmed Tanni, who was injured during the July movement, is now vying for the post of Research and Publication Affairs secretary in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections slated for September 9.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union have not announced any of their candidates for the same post in honour of Tanni, who was injured in the Chhatra League attack during student movement last year.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib announced the DUCSU election panel on Wednesday leaving the post vacant.
Earlier, Abdul Quader, the convener of the Democratic Students’ Union of Dhaka University, announced on his social media that the post would be vacant for Tanni, a student of the psychology department of DU.
On his Facebook ID, he said, “Tanni is the source of our protests that flared up in July, Tanni is the inspiration for our resistance that roared in July. Out of respect for her, the post of ‘Research and Publications’ secretary has been kept vacant in our supported panel, and we will have full support for Tanni.”
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, a section of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, a section of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front and the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)-supported panel have left the post vacant in honour of Tanni.
