Dhaka University (DU) has appointed Professor Md Mehedi Hasan Khan and Professor Dr Md Abdul Karim as acting deans of the faculties of Social Sciences and Biological Sciences respectively.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam made the appointments on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, under Article 17(2) of the First Statutes of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, the university said in a press release.
Professor Md Mehedi Hasan Khan, from the Department of Population Sciences, will lead the Faculty of Social Sciences, while Professor Dr Md Abdul Karim, from the Department of Botany, has been assigned responsibility for the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
The newly appointed acting deans have already taken charge of their respective faculties.
Former acting deans Professor Dr Mohammad Moinul Islam of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Professor Dr Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan of the Faculty of Biological Sciences attended separate handover ceremonies, along with chairmen of departments under the respective faculties, according to the press release.
