The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued urgent directives for all educational institutions across the country in response to the rising cases of a new Covid-19 sub-variant and worsening dengue situation.
In a circular issued on Sunday, the DSHE outlined awareness campaigns for dengue prevention and five specific Covid-19 safety measures.
Under the directive titled “Dengue Awareness: Future Actions”, all schools and colleges have been instructed to engage teachers and students in raising awareness about dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, following decisions made at a recent high-level meeting.
Additionally, aligning with the Health Directorate’s guidelines, educational institutions must adhere to five key health protocols to prevent Covid-19 transmission:
- Handwashing: Frequent handwashing with soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Mask usage: Wearing masks to cover the nose and mouth.
- Social distancing: Maintaining at least 3 feet of distance from infected individuals.
- Avoid touching face: Refraining from touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Respiratory hygiene: Covering the mouth and nose with a tissue, handkerchief, or elbow when coughing or sneezing.
The circular emphasises strict compliance to mitigate health risks in educational settings.
