The latest move by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) to grant FIX certification to 13 more brokerage houses signals a significant advancement in the integration of Application Programming Interface (API) technology in the local capital market.

This development is set to streamline trading operations, ensuring smoother transactions and faster order executions, marking a milestone in DSE’s efforts to modernize the market.

The certification ceremony, held on 28 August 2025, took place at the DSE Training Academy. DSE Chairman Mominul Islam presented the FIX certification, expressing his gratitude to the 13 brokerage houses for their commitment to this initiative.

He also acknowledged the challenges faced by some brokerage houses that have not yet implemented the system and assured them that DSE is actively working to assist in overcoming these barriers.

Speaking on the importance of the integration, Mominul Islam highlighted, “While the capital market continues to grow, we must work collectively to enhance its efficiency. The changes underway will pave the way for sustainable growth in the market.”

The 13 brokerage houses receiving the FIX certification included leaders in the industry such as Apex Investment Limited’s Assistant General Manager and Head of IT Md Abu Bakar Siddique, Bank Asia Securities Limited’s CEO Sumon Das, EBL Securities Chief Operating Officer M Shahryar Faiz, and others.

These firms are now ready to implement their proprietary Order Management Systems via API, which will improve both performance and reliability in market transactions.

Earlier in the event, Mohammad Asadur Rahman, DSE’s Chief Operating Officer and Acting Managing Director, welcomed the attendees, while Mohammad Rahmat Pasha, Managing Director and CEO of UCB Stock Brokerage, spoke on behalf of the brokers. The closing remarks were delivered by DSE’s Chief Technology Officer Dr Mohammad Asifur Rahman.

Other senior officials, including DSE Director Minhaz Mannan Emon, Richard D’ Rozario, and Syed Mahmud Zubair, also attended the ceremony.

Since 2020, DSE has been working on integrating the API-based Order Management System (BHOMS), with 65 brokerage houses applying for the connection. Today, with the 13 new certifications, a total of 39 brokerage houses have received FIX certification, 22 of which have successfully implemented the system.

Additionally, most other brokers have adopted the DSE mobile app, which allows investors to trade directly from their smartphones, further modernizing the trading experience.
