A man allegedly killed his four-year-old daughter and dumped her body into a canal in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday night.
The horrific incident occurred in Monkhali Konar Para of Jaliapalong union, triggering shock and outrage in the local community.
The accused, Aman Ullah (40), was detained by locals and later handed over to police. He is the son of the late Nurul Alam of the same area. Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arif Hossain confirmed the incident.
According to local sources, Aman Ullah returned home intoxicated and began violently assaulting his wife without provocation. When their young daughter approached during the altercation, he allegedly struck her on the head with a knife, killing her instantly.
In an attempt to cover up the crime, he then threw her lifeless body into the nearby Monkhali canal.
Following the attack, his injured wife, after partially regaining consciousness, informed neighbors and a local shopkeeper about the tragedy. The news quickly spread, and residents alerted the police outpost at Inani.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene and arrested Aman Ullah with the assistance of locals.
During initial questioning in police custody, Aman Ullah reportedly confessed to the crime, saying, “I was high on alcohol, yaba, and marijuana. After beating my wife, I killed my daughter.”
The child’s body was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for autopsy. OC Arif Hossain said legal proceedings are underway, and a murder case is being filed.
The brutal killing has sparked grief and outrage in the area, with residents demanding exemplary punishment for the father who took his own child’s life.
