As government employees continue their protests for a third consecutive day against the “Government Employment (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025,” the National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah addressed the demonstrators, stating: “During the July uprising, you wore black badges supporting Sheikh Hasina. Now you threaten to halt office operations. Before August 5, none of you resigned despite openly challenging Sheikh Hasina’s authority.”
Speaking to journalists at Chattogram’s Revolution Park around 12:30pm on Monday before NCP’s northern district roadshow, Abdullah responded to queries about the Secretariat protests by warning: “Had the fascist Awami League government survived, you’d still be serving obediently. If you now obstruct reform efforts and threaten this government post-August 5, remember – the people will find alternatives.”
The NCP leader posed pointed questions: “Did any secretary, bureaucrat or employee resign before August 5, even when citizens were being shot dead on streets? Yet, now they impede this government’s work instead of cooperating.”
Cautioning against holding the government hostage, Abdullah asserted: “Millions like me exist across Bangladesh. Any obstruction to reforms will face stern public resistance. Don’t assume you’re irreplaceable – assist the government, support reforms. Raise concerns through dialogue, not hostage-taking tactics that worsen the situation.”
