DoE cracks down on banned polythene, air-noise pollution

The Department of Environment (DoE) has carried out integrated mobile-court drives across the country against air and noise pollution, black smoke and banned polythene.

Four mobile courts filed 16 cases, imposed fines totalling Tk 34,500 and seized 33 hydraulic horns in Rajbari, Kurigram, Manikganj and Gazipur.

In Shyamoli of Dhaka, a drive was carried out to curb black smoke from vehicles, Six cases were filed with Tk 23,000 in fines.

Two cases were filed in Kurigram and Aftabnagar of Dhaka with Tk 6,500 in fines for air pollution caused by construction materials.

Three drives were conducted in Chattogram, Bandarban and Chawkbazar Imamganj area of Dhaka against the production, sales, supplies and marketing of banned polythene.

During the drives, 205 kg of polythene was seized and two cases were filed with Tk 12,000 in fines.

Earlier, shop owners, supermarkets and the public were also given cautionary messages and leaflets on the harmful effects of polythene.
