Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will award the Nagorik Padak 2025 to 30 socially conscious individuals in six categories.

Applications for this recognition will be open from late July and throughout August. Applicants have to submit their work documents on the DNCC official website.

The announcement came from a press conference at the DNCC headquarters in the capital on Thursday.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz briefed reporters on the selection criteria and purpose of the award: “Applicants must submit a detailed description of their initiatives along with supporting photos and videos. A jury board will evaluate the documents and select the final awardees,” he added.

Azaz also said, “Nagorik Padak is meant to inspire active, responsible urban citizenship. A liveable and sustainable city cannot be built without the participation of conscious citizens.”

The six categories are:

  1. Individual Initiatives: Tree plantation, street cleaning or rescue and support for injured animals.
  2. Social Organisations: Campaigns for canal recovery, waste cleanup, awareness drives and waterlogging prevention.
  3. Educational Institutions: Green campus projects, recycling initiatives, environmental clubs, and eco-friendly programmes.
  4. Small Businesses: Environmentally friendly product development, sustainable packaging, and innovative social solutions.
  5. Media & Content Creators: Informative videos, reports, articles, or promotional materials that raise public awareness.
  6. Innovators & Startups: Smart city solutions, tech-based environmental protection and civic-focused innovations.

Politically involved individuals or organisations, previously accused of corruption or past recipients of the award within the last three years, will be ineligible for this award.

DNCC officials hope to expand this initiative to other city corporations and district towns across the country.
