Authorities conducted a coordinated crackdown at Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Wednesday afternoon to curb excessive fare collection from homebound passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. The joint operation involved personnel from Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur Division, including a Special Metropolitan Magistrate, alongside army officials, Traffic Darussalam Unit, and Darussalam Police Station officers working in unison to verify overcharging complaints and maintain transport sector discipline.
During inspections, enforcement teams penalised two bus operators – Ahad Paribahan and Asad Paribahan – imposing fines of Tk10,000 each after confirming they had illegally inflated fares. The authorities ensured immediate refunds to affected passengers through the offending transport companies. A DMP spokesperson confirmed these targeted operations against fare manipulation would continue throughout the Eid travel period, maintaining vigilance to protect passengers from exploitation while guaranteeing safe holiday journeys.
The crackdown reflects the administration’s two-pronged approach: maintaining fare regulations through strict enforcement while facilitating smooth travel during the peak seasonal migration. Officials emphasised their commitment to sustaining these measures until the conclusion of Eid transportation flows.
