Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sajjad Ali has reaffirmed that the police is a disciplined force, where there is no room for indiscipline or for carrying out actions beyond the bounds of law and regulation.

He stressed the importance of gaining public trust through lawful and efficient service delivery and called on officers to enhance the image of the police through sincere work for the welfare of the people.

The DMP Commissioner made these remarks on Sunday morning, following his inspection of the Grand Master Parade held at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Ground.

The event, held in a festive and spirited atmosphere, aimed to promote physical fitness, discipline, and coordination among officers and personnel of the DMP.

The Grand Master Parade is a longstanding tradition within the police force, serving as a formal platform to assess discipline and operational readiness across various units.

The parade was commanded by Deputy Police Commissioner (Welfare and Force) Rawnak Alam.

At the start of the event, Commissioner Sajjad Ali was welcomed with a ceremonial salute by a well-decorated honour guard, accompanied by a police band.

He received the salute and then inspected the various contingents representing different DMP units.

Addressing the officers and personnel after the inspection, he said, “The primary objective of the Master Parade is to reinforce discipline within the force. The police is a disciplined institution; there is no scope for any conduct that violates discipline or falls outside legal and regulatory frameworks.”

He urged police members to maintain cleanliness in their workplaces, dedicating at least one day each week to such efforts. He emphasised the importance of discipline, responsibility, and ethical service in improving public perception and confidence in the police.

“We must work together in unity to transform the DMP into a modern, dynamic, and trusted institution,” he said.

He added that every task must be carried out with professionalism and dedication, and officers must remain mentally resilient in the face of any challenge.

In light of rising demands for transparency and fairness in public service, the DMP Commissioner also called on officers to maintain strict neutrality and remain fully committed to public service, avoiding any bias or external influence.

His speech comes at a time of increasing public scrutiny of law enforcement, particularly in the context of political protests, urban crime, and calls for institutional reforms in policing across Bangladesh.

Present at the Grand Master Parade were several senior officials, including Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Sarwar, Additional Police Commissioner (Administration) Faruq Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime & Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Counter-Terrorism & Transnational Crime) Md Masud Karim, and Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance & Procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, among others.
