The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has once again imposed a ban on all forms of public gatherings, rallies, processions, and sit-ins in and around key areas of the capital, including the Bangladesh Secretariat and the official residence of Chief Adviser.

According to a public notice, signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali issued on Wednesday, the restriction will take effect from August 8, and will remain in force until further notice.

The restriction is imposed under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976 (Ordinance No. III/76), which grants the DMP authority to impose such measures in the interest of public order and safety, the notice stated.

The restricted zone includes the Bangladesh Secretariat and its adjacent areas, the Chief Adviser’s official residence Jamuna and the surrounding areas, the area between Hotel Intercontinental Crossing, Kakrail Mosque Crossing, Officers’ Club Crossing and Minto Road Crossing.

The DMP has issued such bans at various times for political and security reasons.

However, this time, this directive is going to be implemented with the utmost importance given to the ‘Chief Adviser’s security’, according to police sources.

The DMP has urged all citizens to comply with this directive. The law enforcement agencies have also warned that legal action will be taken if the directive is violated.
