The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of public gatherings, processions, rallies, and demonstrations in the vicinity of the Supreme Court (SC) and several adjacent judicial and state premises, effective from Thursday until further notice.

The restriction, announced through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali, has been issued under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976. Although the notice does not specify any exacting reasoning, it cites the need to maintain public order amid the prevailing situation.

The areas under the restriction include the official residence of the chief justice, Judges Complex, the main Mazar and Jame Mosque gates of the apex court, entry points to International Crimes Tribunal 1 and 2, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute building.

The DMP has also reiterated its call to refrain from occupying roads under the pretext of protests or demands, warning against disruptions to vehicular movement and public inconvenience.
