Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 105 people in a five-day special operation targeting crime-prone areas under six police stations in the Tejgaon division, according to a DMP press release.
Police said 59 suspects were detained in the last 24 hours until Wednesday, including individuals wanted in regular and ongoing cases, convicted criminals, accused drug dealers, suspected muggers, thieves, robbers, armed assailants, and other identified offenders.
Of those arrested, 30 were picked up from areas under Tejgaon Police Station and 17 from Mohammadpur. In addition, three were held in Adabor, four each in Tejgaon Industrial Area and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, and one in Hatirjheel.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Police Commissioner Ibne Mizan, with regular patrols and special teams from all six police stations participating.
Earlier, within the 24 hours leading up to Saturday, Tejgaon police had arrested 46 people from Tejgaon, Mohammadpur, Adabor, and other stations on various criminal charges.
Police said legal action has been taken against the detainees and they have been sent to court.
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam told reporters on 10 August that such special drives will continue nationwide until the national parliamentary elections scheduled for the first week of February.
“Our main objective is the upcoming election,” he said, adding that the police are committed to maintaining public safety through continuous operations until then.
