Police recovered the dismembered body of an unidentified man from a travel bag in the Station Road area of Tongi, Gazipur, on Friday morning. The gruesome discovery has prompted an intensive investigation.

Local residents first noticed the unattended travel bag near a shop around 9:30 AM. Growing suspicious as no one claimed it for an extended period, they alerted the police.

Upon arrival, officers opened the bag and found eight body parts wrapped in black polythene. The victim’s head, however, was missing.

Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Faridul Islam stated that preliminary findings suggest the victim was murdered two to three days before the body was dumped. The bag was left near the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, likely under the cover of dawn.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting fingerprints to identify the deceased. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has also joined the probe.

The remains will be sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital’s morgue for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway as police work to uncover the motive and apprehend those responsible.

Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
