Both of Dhaka’s city corporations have mobilised unprecedented resources to ensure sacrificial animal waste gets removed on Eid day itself, with administrators personally overseeing operations launching at 3pm. Facing an anticipated 50,000 tons of waste from approximately 700,000 sacrificial animals across the capital, authorities have canceled all staff holidays in waste management departments and established dedicated hotlines for prompt service.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Shahjahan Mia outlined their preparedness: “With 10,000 sanitation workers and our full fleet of vehicles deployed, we’re committed to clearing all waste within 12 hours of the first sacrifice.” The city has stockpiled 1.39 million specially designed waste bags while integrating private waste collectors into the operation.

Mirroring these efforts, Dhaka North (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz revealed they’ve positioned 224 dump trucks, 381 pickup vehicles, and 24 payloaders to handle their projected 20,000 tons of waste. “Our 10,000-strong workforce will work in three shifts throughout Eid’s three days,” Ejaz noted, highlighting the distribution of 1.25 million polybags, 2,500 bleach sacks, and 4,000 disinfectant cans to maintain hygiene standards.

In an environmental first, DNCC has excavated two dedicated waste disposal trenches at Amin Bazar, marking a shift toward sustainable waste management during the religious festival. Both corporations have implemented round-the-clock monitoring systems to ensure the capital remains clean throughout the celebrations.
