The first-ever admission test for the newly proposed Dhaka Central University(DCU), comprising seven government colleges in the capital, will commence on Friday afternoon for the 2024–25 academic year.
Professor AKM Elias, a member of the interim administration of Dhaka Central University, confirmed the details on Thursday.
The admission test for the four-year honours courses in the ‘Kha’ unit under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will take place from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday. The science group exam is scheduled for Saturday morning (August 23), followed by the business studies exam in the afternoon.
According to sources, a total of 24,094 students have applied for 4,498 seats in the faculty, with six candidates competing for each seat. However, 890 applicants later withdrew their applications by requesting refunds.
This year’s admission tests are open to students from both the 2024–25 and 2023–24 academic sessions.
The tests will be held across several centres, including Dhaka College, Eden College, Titumir College, Bangla College, Begum Badrunnesa College, Kabi Nazrul College, and Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
Earlier, on July 9, the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education granted permission for Dhaka Central University to proceed with the admission process for the 2024–25 academic year.
The seven colleges had been affiliated with Dhaka University since 2017. Following ongoing complaints of irregularities and mismanagement, students launched protests calling for reforms. Subsequently, the interim government decided to cancel the affiliation and establish ‘Dhaka Central University’ with these seven colleges.
