The Dev-Subhashree starrer ‘Dhumketu’, released on August 14,  has taken the West Bengal box office by storm, grossing over five crore rupees within two days of its release. This has been a record for the Tollywood industry.

Producer Rana Sarkar has now urged Bangladeshi authorities to permit the film’s release. In a Facebook post, he appealed to Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, citing the strong demand for Bangla cinema among Bangladeshi audiences.

“We are eager to release Dhumketu in Bangladesh,” Sarkar wrote. “We request the government to grant permission, honouring the love of countless cinephiles. Honourable Chief Adviser and Cultural Adviser, please grant our appeal.”

He also called on fans in Bangladesh to lobby the government for the film’s release.

Dhumketu reunites Dev and Subhashree on screen after more than a decade, their last collaboration being in 2013. Although shooting wrapped up 10 years ago, the project faced repeated delays before finally reaching cinemas.

Ahead of its release, the pair put aside personal differences to jointly promote the film, appearing together at events, engaging with fans and visiting a temple to pray for its success.

Directed by Kaushik Ganguly, the film blends romance with social themes and also stars Parambrata Chatterjee and Rudranil Ghosh. It has been co-produced by Rana Sarkar and Dev.
