The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported in its Wednesday press release that, while no dengue-related deaths occurred in the past 24 hours, 288 new patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide.
The breakdown of new cases shows Barisal Division (outside city corporation areas) recording the highest number at 261 admissions, followed by Chattogram Division with 11 cases outside city corporation limits. Dhaka Division reported minimal cases outside city corporation areas with just one admission, while Dhaka South City Corporation recorded 12 new hospitalisations. Mymensingh and Rajshahi Divisions outside city corporation boundaries reported two and one cases respectively.
During the same reporting period, 268 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 4,832. Current data as of June 11 indicates 5,303 total dengue cases in 2024, with males constituting 59.7% and females 40.3% of patients. The year’s cumulative death toll stands at 23.
Comparative annual statistics reveal that from January to December 2024, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases with 575 fatalities, showing significant improvement from 2023’s figures of 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths during the same period.
The data indicates Barisal Division continues to be the most affected region currently, while the discharge rate remains steady with nearly 270 patients recovering daily. Male patients consistently represent nearly 60% of total cases, maintaining a pattern observed in previous years.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the country maintains vigilance against the mosquito-borne disease.
