Dengue: Six die, 647 hospitalised in 24hrs

Six more people died from dengue, while 647 patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.

This brings the total dengue-related death toll to 167 this year.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared the information in a press release issued on Thursday.

According to the release, of the newly hospitalised patients, 108 were admitted in Barishal division, 96 in Chattogram Division, 102 in Dhaka Division, 37 in Khulna Division, 25 in Mymensingh Division, 38 in areas of Rajshahi Division outside the city corporations and 113 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 128 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Meanwhile, 564 dengue patients were discharged during the same period, taking the total number of recoveries this year to 38,252.

Up to September 18, a total of 40,461 dengue cases have been reported in 2024, with men accounting for 60.3% of infections and women 39.7%.

Last year, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue, with 575 deaths recorded.

In comparison, in 2023, there were 321,179 hospitalidations due to dengue and 1,705 deaths reported across the country.
