Dengue claims 5 more lives in 24 hours

Five more people have died of dengue fever in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh, according to a press release from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), issued on Friday.

During this period, 159 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of these, 124 cases were reported from areas outside Barisal City Corporation, 9 from outside Chattogram City Corporation, 9 from outside Dhaka City Corporation, 1 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 12 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 3 from areas outside Khulna City Corporation, and 1 from outside Rajshahi City Corporation.

With the latest deaths, the total number of dengue-related fatalities this year has risen to 28.

Additionally, 104 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 5,011 patients have recovered and been released from healthcare facilities.

As of June 13, 2025, a total of 5,570 people has been diagnosed with dengue this year. Among them, 59.5% are male, while 40.5% are female. Of the five latest fatalities, four were from the Barisal Division and one from the Dhaka South City Corporation area.

In comparison, during the entire year of 2024, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. The previous year, 2023, saw the deadliest dengue outbreak in the country’s history, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalizations.
