Two people have died and 326 more have been hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to a press release from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
Of the new hospital admissions, 118 were outside the city corporations in Barishal division, 43 in Chattogram, 43 in Dhaka division, 26 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 45 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 16 in Khulna, 29 in Rajshahi and one in Sylhet.
Meanwhile, 319 dengue patients were discharged from hospital during the period. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 7,749 patients have been released.
As of June 25, a total of 8,870 people have been infected with dengue this year, with 58.7% of the patients being male and 41.3% female. Two more fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours — one in Dhaka South and one in Rajshahi — raising this year’s death toll to 36.
In 2024 so far, 101,214 people have been infected with dengue and 575 have died. Last year, between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, there were 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease.
